Review: InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal

I hear ya! Its so hard to find a good journal these days! One that meets all the expectations, and I am starting to feel like my elusive notebook might never be there!

I got such a huge haul when I did a shop at the Inkbyjeng store you wouldn’t even believe me! But what I was most excited about was the A5 Notebook whizzing its way to my door! So lets get started with….Review: InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal! If you would like to see the other reviews we have done you can head over here!

InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal – The Notebook

What a gorgeous cover! The hard cover is robust and wont get grubby or pick up dirt quickly. I chose to get the Ash Grey. The cost was $21usd (currently $19 on sale) but with shipping included ended up being pretty expensive NZD wise.

The journal is a standard A5; there is a total of 5 colour options and they are all embossed with a gorgeous leaf illustration design by Jennifer herself. And the cover is a lovely faux leather hard cover. It has a matching color elastic closure.

InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal – The Paper

The inside of the journal is pretty generic with the usual “name here” area to write in. There are 192 Pages. The binding lays flat and is nicely designed to almost “detach” from the spine, without looking like its breaking. It has 1 ribbon book mark, and a fabric/paper back pocket.

The paper is 100gsm uncoated, acid free.  There are no page numbers in this particular journal. The paper is whiter than that of the LT1917 which is great  and makes the colors on the paper really pop! The dots are 0.5cm as per normal sizing, and a subtle grey which I actually quite liked. There are 27 dots across the top (26 boxes) and 39 dots down (38 boxes)

InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal – The Pen Test

On her website Jennifer states:

The paper is uncoated. Some very wet pens may show some bleed-through. Works well with gel pens. When watercoloring, it’s recommended to use a sheet of paper behind the sheet you are working with. I recommend (with all journals) to make a swatch page in the back. Include your favorite pens so that you can see how the ink works with the paper.

Which was definitely true of the pen test. While there was minimal ghosting, there was some bleed through with the highlighters and the Ecoline pens, as well as the Tombows.

Final Review: InkbyJeng Dot Grid Bullet Journal – Pros and Cons

Pros:

  1. Nice white paper
  2. Thick 100gsm
  3. Gorgeous Hardcover with the embossed illustration
  4. Minimal ghosting
  5. Elastic Closure

Cons:

  1. Bleeding
  2. No page numbers
  3. One ribbon

Overall its definitely a journal I would use – I would rate it in the same vein as the STM paper wise. I would love to see this in a B5 😛 only because I am now addicted to the B5! Hahah! However as a first journal I would definitely recommend this. So give it an overall score of 4/5
