Interview – Rose K – Rose K Journals

Rose K - RoseKJournals

I had an assignment for my course in Digital Design and creativity! The assignment focused on the impact Instagram had had on society. So I approached some big names in Instagram and asked them a couple of questions!

Rose actually lives around the corner from my work – so we chat a lot and she is FUNNNNNNYYYYY! Great banter! And so well dressed. Her naturally crazy neat handwriting leaves us all for dead, and makes her bullet journal pages almost enviable!

You can find her hanging out on Instagram, pinning up a storm, or popping new things into her etsy store! She also has tons and tons of cute freebies on her page!

When did your Journey Start?

I started bullet journaling, and at the same time, my Instagram account in March 2016

How did you get into this Niche?

I actually invested in a fairly expensive planner  towards the end of 2015 after having seen it being used on Instagram. (it wasn’t that expensive, but the shipping to NZ was!)   I loved how others were using and decorating theirs so I jumped on the bandwagon.  But like I have with other planners, I fell off the wagon by Christmas.  I then stumbled across the bullet journal system on Instagram.  After following all the big accounts at the time and scrolling through the #bulletjournal hashtag religiously, I ordered my first Leurchtturm and some fineliners and went from there!  My account took off pretty quickly because I was lucky enough to have a post reposted by a large bullet journal account after my first week and I’d hit 2000 followers within a couple of months.

Do you have a day job?

Yes, I’m a Chartered Accountant and I currently work part-time for a property development company.  I also do a bit of part-time accounting work for a small charity and I have 2 young children which I’m trying to raise as decent human beings.  So yes, i would say my day job is totally different.  There is no creativity involved at all!

What was your defining moment? And whats next for you?

I don’t actually feel like I have a defining moment yet.  Yes, I have a large following on Instagram, but that in itself is not a business.  I have goals for my blog, to grow my following and eventually turn that into a profitable business, and from there to turn my Etsy shop into a profitable business.

Do you have a good support network

So, here’s the thing, only a small handful of people know about my social media presence and my blog and Etsy shop.  I have literally one real life friend who knows because she stumbled across my Instagram account one day!  My husband and his family know, but other than that, no-one, not even my close family know about it.  I’m not sure why I haven’t told them yet, but maybe it’s because I worry they may not understand and  a part of me wants to hold back until my business is more successful before I reveal all.   My husband has been very supportive with this whole venture, he is constantly asking how it’s all going, how many sales I make, how many pageviews, followers.  I know he is so supportive because he can see the joy I get out of it.   He’s a keeper!  I have also made a couple of good friends who I’ve met through my Instagram account and they are super supportive of me!

What is your favorite product or tip?

Everyone hears it, but practice practice practice.  If you want to improve your handlettering, then practice.  If you want to improve your doodling, then practice.  There is no shortcut, no magic tricks.  Even if you don’t think you’re improving, I promise you that you are.  I very recently pulled out my first bullet journal from two years ago and was shocked by how different my work looked back then.  I even impressed myself with how far I’ve come and now I just want to practice more!

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

Rose is an amazing mum to two little boys!

So lets have a look at some her amazing work

If you haven’t followed her yet I highly recommend it!
